From the global Mars maps I also like the Colourised Terrain. I would really like it if the university of Arizona also made a Mars quickmap! Right now I am again using Google Earth for its Mars maps:Īgain historic but very useful. It's a small but detailed globe and the way it spins looks totally miraculous. There are no labels on it though, so I've been looking for a good Mars map. Here is an example.)Ībout Mars: a few moths back I got a Mova Mars globe (the link is to a short video). Use the mouse wheel to zoom, and for different views drag and shift-drag the map. To activate it click on the middle tool button at the right hand side of the window, then double click somewhere on the globe. Its 3D globe is absolutely amazing too. ( see here). Craters on the two planetary surfaces were chosen through a non-systematic visual survey of WAC mosaics available from the QuickMap web interface. Quickmap stays the best though for its depth of detail. You can download Google Earth Pro for free. It's far less polished than LROC Quickmap (for Moon), but still better imo than Google Mars (or Moon. There are three clearly visible impact basins: Argyre and Hellas in the south. The most obvious geomorphic feature of Mars is the dichotomy between its northern lowlands and southern highlands. Here's a link to a website where you can explore the planet by zooming in and out and enable and disable layers with the maps I mentioned above. Map of Mars with major regions labeled The base map is a Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter topographic map of Mars. Many years ago Times published the same charts that Google Earth uses in The Times Atlas of the Moon, my all time favourite Moon atlas. Then there's the THEMIS mosaics which cover Mars at an even higher resolution, something like 100m. Sidebar: Moon gallery: Historical maps > Topographic charts. (For the sheer beauty of its paint brushed maps.) The map is here: I really like quickmap, although I mostly use the Google Earth Moon map to identifying features I see through the telescope.
